With the Cherokee boys’ and girls’ cross country teams heading into the championship portion of the season, it seems like just yesterday we were out on a humid day on September 10th kicking off the 2023 XC season at the 27th Annual Cherokee Challenge. Many CHSXCTF alumni and family members attended, helping sell merchandise to raise money for 4xAlumni and cheer on the student-athletes. Through the sale of t-shirts, stickers and sunglasses we were able to raise over $5,000 for the boys’ and girls’ XC and T&F programs.

Somehow, September and October have flown by, and both the boys and girls teams have started off the Championship season with a bang, winning both the Burlington County Open (the boys swept the top 5 spots securing a perfect score of 15!) and the Olympic Conference Championships. The boys have been led by senior Nick Keunkel, and the girls, by senior Kerry O’Day.
Here is a girl’s season recap provided by Coach Jarvis.

Both teams are now gearing up for the final races of the season. With the boys ranked 10th in the state, and that number likely to rise after they defeated 7th-ranked Cherry Hill East at the Olympic Conference Championships, and the Cherokee girls now seemingly at full strength and getting hot, we are likely to see some special races at Sectionals, States, and MOC. We encourage any alumni to come out and cheer on the student-athletes as they finish out their season, starting with Sectionals this weekend!
