The weather for MOC's was one of the better ones I can remember. For just the 4th time in school history, the girls team lined up at the Meet of Champions. With the merged results from the state meet, we went in as the 8th seed. We had lofty goals to break into the top 6 and to be the top team from South Jersey. Unfortunately, neither of those two came to fruition. The team finished 9th and managed to place in the top 10 for the fourth time in school history.
2004 - 8th
2010 - 6th
2021 - 1st
2023 - 9th
Despite the disappointed feeling, we left with four girls running the fastest they had ever run at Holmdel, 2 more ran around what they had been running and unfortunately one had a bad race.
This was just a solid reminder that sports really do prepare you for life. Things will not always go the way you want them to, but it is how you react that matters most.
Kerry O'Day was our top finisher with a top-10 finish. She ran 18:44 to place 10th, just off her course PR of 18:41 set at the State meet. She certainly put herself in a select field being in the chase group of 3-7 for most of the meet. Kerry is now just the 3rd girl to place in the top 10 at MOC's in school history.
Lisa Burkholder 2003: 10th, 2004: 9th.
Megan Lacy 2010: 4th, 2011: 7th.
Kerry O’Day 2023: 9th
Megan Niglio was next in for us at 22nd running a course PR of 19:16, 14 seconds faster than she ran at the state meet… That moves her up to #6 all-time in school history.
Olivia Parkinson was our #3 running 20:45 to finish 106th. This was 13 seconds faster than she ran at the state meet.
1st-year runner Grace Wojciechowski was our #4 running 21:06 just off her course PR she set at the state meet.
Lainy Bromley had an off day running 21:15.
Our 6 and 7 were Maddie Van Haren 22:06 and Maya Kumar 22:18. Both of those were Holmdel PRs.
We switch gears as we look to the Nike Northeast Regional meet on Nov. 25th. The girls are excited to once again be going back to Bowdoin Park and compete with the best teams in the Northeast.
We once again thank the alumni association for covering the hotel rooms, entry fees and uniforms for Regionals.
